Someone asked me recently is it possible to get married on St Patrick’s Day in Athy. My answer was “it depends”…

It depends on the priest/parish. A civil ceremony is out because it’s a bank holiday and most civil servants don’t work bank holidays. Few parishes I know allow weddings on bank holidays. If you know of one, let me know!

But the opportunity for total paddywhackery exists.. The bridesmaids would all wear green, and the bride would carry a bunch of shamrock, begorragh!

Entertainment would be ceili music,  followed by fun loving leprechauns somersaulting about the place.

And the wedding photographer would produce an album in forty shades of green.

The reality is trying to move around on Paddy’s Day could be one of the biggest problems with many streets closed.

The truth is I’ll be in Athy on St Patrick’s Day, not in my usual role of wedding photographer but as an ordinary punter waving my little green flag.

If you’d like to see the photos I take on the day be sure to come back real soon… Like anytime after the 17th March.
